Father to the Fatherless

I woke up this morning thinking about what it was like raising boys as a single mom. As a matter of fact, a while ago I asked my oldest son what helped him weather the storms without his father consistently being in his life. He said that, although it didn't make him feel "completely whole", having mentors and activities helped him keep his mind off that fact and gave him a sense of normalcy because he had someone he could go to about "man" things.

God knows exactly what we need when we need it. He didn't provide ME with a husband while my kids were growing up and I didn't go looking for one because that's not what I needed at that time. He provided my kids with a family of believers who took His word seriously because, at that time, I needed to rely totally on the Lord to be husband and father for our family.
Psalm 68:5 - A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.
To this day, I don't know what the "man" things are, but I sure thank God for His providence and a ministry like Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship that filled in the gaps by surrounding my sons with spiritual, not just godly, men to support and encourage them, especially during their teenage years.
Psalm 146:9 - The LORD watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow...

Blessed in Christ

Consider what it means to be blessed in Christ with every spiritual blessing. Take 2-3 minutes to prayerfully think about how you could approach your day today with this in mind. When you have a moment of decision or a crisis today, recite your verse quietly to yourself. Then go forward in faith, believing "God has blessed me in Christ with every spiritual blessing." Trust in His strength and remember His love for you. ~Laurie Aker

Happy by Dr. Kenneth Ulmer

Dr. Kenneth Ulmer blessed us a few Sundays ago... Here are my notes from his sermon. When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him. He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ( Matthew 5 : 1-3 NASB) Jesus pronounced, declared the people in the multitude "happy". Blessed = Happy, happiness. But not a happiness as the world knows.  He speaks of the term of the "gods" which is a state where you're unaffected by the world of men, doesn't waiver with the rise and fall of your circumstances of life.  First exhortation was to repent - a change of mind, change of direction.  Root word = mind, to think.  An intellectual dimension of following Christ.  Go beyond or go further than.  To think beyond what you thought.  Something about repentance that enables you to see beyond the right now to the not yet.  You are ...

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

People will let you down. The only opinion you should accept about who you are and your self worth is The Lord's. Stop listening to people and internalize what your Heavenly Father says about who you are.  Remember,  God's word is true... You are precious in His sight.
